Snowman Cups

I saw this idea on Pinterest earlier this year and knew I'd use it at some point.
These 2 are some of the ones I made for my family.
I added the names cut from vinyl on my Cricut so I could tell them apart.
I'm putting the small gifts in them.

I'm also making these for the residents at my Mom's assisted living facility and filling them with candy for the holidays. I'm not adding names to those.
They're quick to make with a little paint and a triangle of felt glued on for a nose.

Sock Monkey - Whoo Wha!

You might remember the Memory Bears I made my cousin's kids after my Uncle (their Grandfather) passed away using his old shirts.
Well, one of the girls found a pair of his socks and wanted a sock monkey made from them.
I've never made one before but knew I was going to try :)

I used the instructions from Craft Passion. They have some adorable sock monkeys on their site.

Here's how mine turned out. I decided to make him a hat from fleece and use some of the leftover buttons from the shirts on it.

I ♥ him!

Gift for Mom

At Christmas I try to make something special for my Mom.
Mom was always crafty - guess that's where I get it from :) - but now with her memory failing, she's not able to do things she used to.

I know she will ♥ these plates.

I've done her room in black and white with touches of pink.
When I saw these plates at the thrift store with the tiny pink flowers, I knew exactly what I wanted to make for her.
These will hang on either side of her bed.
There's a large floating frame monogram with scrolls I made her a few years ago that is directly above her bed.
It's going to look great!

The butterfiles were cut using my Cricut machine and the files are from myvinyldesigner.com
I'll try to post a photo of these hanging up in her room after the holidays.

The Tree is Up!

It's barely the first week of December and my tree is up and decorated.
I did something completely different this year. After about 20 years of doing the same tree, I thought it was time to change it up.
I've always wanted to do a tree like this.
I snowmen!!
The head came from Big Lots.
The bow at the neck was one I had that I used as a tree topper in past years.
I bought 2 rolls of silver wide deco mesh ribbon and used it as a garland.
The round 'icy' garland on the tree is something I've had for several years. I purchased it on clearance at JoAnns.
The 'snowballs' are stryrofoam balls painted with white glue and rolled in faux snow.
There are around 100 snowflakes & icicles from Dollar Tree on it..
When the lights are on, the tree SPARKLES

I might just leave this tree up all winter :)

When what to my wondering eyes should appear . . .

My newest set of flameless tealight covers is simply adorable.
Santa's in his sleigh being pulled by 8 reindeer.
Rudolph is in the lead.
My original flameless tealight cover designs fit snugly over small battery-operated tealights.
When you turn the tealight on, a soft glow shines through.
This makes an adorable holiday decoration.

Holiday Table Favors

I created personalized snowmen table favors for my family this year.

The hat is made 'in the hoop'. It's not included in the set, but is available for download from my Yahoo group. I added all our names using Embird.
They're going to look so cute, all lit up, sitting on our Thanksgiving table.

Happy Thanksgiving!

My First Published Article ~ yay!

I'm very pleased and proud to have my original Nativity Flameless Tealight Covers featured in the Nov/Dec 2012 issue of Designs In Machine Embroidery magazine

I wrote the article back in June and submitted it along with my stitched out samples.
The magazine did a wonderful job with the photography!

I came up with the original idea of creating the flameless tealight covers in the early Fall of 2011.
Since then I've created many, many sets of covers. You can view them all HERE.

Creative Kindness Hats

I used one of the free patterns from Nancy's Notions to make these Creative Kindness Hats for a friend going through chemo & radiation.

The hats were very quick & easy to stitch.

I chose to make the Basic Cuff hat and embellished 2 of them with flowers made from scraps of blizzard fleece left from making the hats.
I made the flowers into pins so they could be removed.

Thanks to Nancy's Notions for offering this great pattern.

Burlap Project 1

I have quite a bit of burlap left over from making my Christmas Stockings last year. I'm going to try and use some of it up before the year is over.
I hadn't embroidered on it before but it was super easy.
Here's the new insert for my coffee tumbler I made.
The insert is reversible with a fall print on the other side.
I backed the burlap with Decor Bond to make it more stable and used Solvy on top when I embroidered the letter.
I have the blank Travel Tumblers on my site for sale.

Sewn Gift Bags

I bought this pattern from Fabrications by Doris back in the Spring.
It has 2 sizes of gift bags in it. They were easy and fun to make.
I like the fused embellishments you can add to them, but the next time I make them I want to embroider monograms on the fronts.
I like how they're sturdy enough to stand up on their own and absolutely love the grommets for the ribbon handles.
The possibilities are endless with fabric choices.

Monogram My Converse . . . oh yeah

I picked up these shoes at Target yesterday with the intent of trying to monogram them.
It was a little tricky getting them set up on the hoop, but I love how they turned out.
I think I'm going back for a pink or gray pair :)
The way I have them tied, I can just slip them on and off.
They're my new favorite shoes ♥

Gorgeous Flowers ♥

Done planting your flowers?
Now it's time to makes some on your embroidery machine!
My new Silk Rose Petal Flowers are made 'in your hoop'.
The finished flowers measure 6"~10" across and make a big impact.
You can create them directly onto fabric, like I did for this pillow.
The flowers are full & dimensional.
Or you can make them free-standing and use them as pins, etc. like I did on this hat from Target's dollar spot.

Memory Bears

One of my uncles died back in December. He was my favorite :)
My aunt came to visit recently and brought me several of his shirts.
She wants me to make bears for each of their grandkids from them. There are 2 boys & 3 girls.
Here are the bears I made for the boys.
I used an old McCalls pattern (#2271)
I cut the collars off the shirts and hemmed the bottom edge of them.
They buttoned around the neck and fit perfectly.
My uncle was a volunteer fireman. His fireman patches are sewn on the bellies :)

I sewed pockets from the shirts onto the back side of the bears.
My aunt will write notes to each of the kids and put a photo of them with my uncle inside the pocket.
I think they turned out pretty special. They went out in the mail today.
I'll start the ones for the girls soon. I'm thinking about adding raggy flowers to them using leftover scraps.

Butterflies x 3

I used shadow boxes to create these dimensional butterfly scenes.
The butterfly silhouettes were cut on my Cricut from cardstock. I ran them through a Cuttlebug to emboss some with swirls and some with dots.
I could have cut the branches from vinyl using my Cricut, but I cheated a bit :)
JoAnn's has pre-cut vinyl designs and I saw one that was a close match to the design in the sheers in my daughter-in-laws office / spare bedroom. I use a 50% off coupon and bought it for $7.00.
I then took it and cut the branch into 3 main pieces and a couple of smaller ones.
I cut textured white artist's posterboard (also from JoAnns) to fit the back of the shadow boxes.
I applied the vinyl branches to the posterboard.
A small crease in the middle of each butterfly gave it some dimension and a small round sticky dot lifted it slightly off the posterboard.
They look really nice in person. The butterflies are in shades of purple and silver and black.
Hung on the purple wall, the frames really pop.
